The Problem With Doing Nothing by Craig Finley

Sat, Mar 19, 2011

It probably goes without saying but there’s a definite negative effect on our faith when we sin. Sin is degrading to the life of the Spirit. It’s a negation of our experiencing the reality of the kingdom of God.

Now faith is being sure of what we hope for, being convinced of what we do not see. Hebrews 11:1...(click for more)

Baptism Recap

Do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Romans 6:3

Thanksgiving Doesn't Come but Once a Year by Justin Thomas

Wed, Nov 24, 2010

I view Thanksgiving as the last Christian holiday. It seems every other holiday has been polluted by consumerism, but at least with thanksgiving we wait until the day after. However, for Christians, thanksgiving is not a one day deal, it’s a continual state of worship. In Ephesians 5:4 Paul says,

“Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be thanksgiving.”

Paul states here that the mark of Christian speech, in contrast to the speech of the world is thanksgiving...(click for more)

Looking Forward by Jordan Taylor

Thu, Oct 28, 2010

In my last post, I laid out what the Lord has been doing over the past year. Here's a look at what we are expecting Him to do in the future.

Harvest Party – October 31

Every Halloween we transform our campus to a Harvest-themed night out for kids. This event offers a safe, warm, family alternative to the traditional trick-or-treating for members of the community and other churches. Last year, 200 adults and children came through our doors for our Harvest Party. This year we are anticipating a large turn-out and here are some of the ways you can get involved: setting-up, decorating, helping with games, baking, and cleaning-up. Email the church office to volunteer to help....(click for more)

Looking Back by Jordan Taylor

Tue, Oct 26, 2010

Officially, I have been Calvary Fellowship’s Administrative Pastor for a little over one year. It is amazing to think that just one year ago, Pastor Brett Williams became Senior Pastor of Calvary Chapel South Whidbey and we were in the midst of the most comprehensive staff reorganization since our move to Mountlake Terrace in 1997. Just as he did then, the Lord provided, guided, equipped and bore fruit...(click for more)

Our Vision for Capitol Hill: Part 3 by Justin Thomas

Thu, Aug 5, 2010

by Justin Thomas

so that you became examples to all in Macedonia and Achaia who believe. For from you the word of the Lord has sounded forth, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place. Your faith toward God has gone out, so that we do not need to say anything. For they themselves declare concerning us what manner of entry we had to you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come. – 1 Thessalonians 1:7-10

A church of testimony

The Thessalonian church had become a church of testimony both in the example they set for the believers and in the message they spoke to the world. People, Christian and non, had heard about their church even outside of their local region. In essence, God’s plan for the Thessalonians extended well beyond their own local church...(click for more)

Our Vision for Capitol Hill: Part 2 by Justin Thomas

Tue, Jul 27, 2010

by Justin Thomas

We have been feeling called to plant a church on Capitol Hill. This is the second post sharing the vision that God has given us. (The first post can be found here)  The core of this vision comes from 1 Thessalonians 1:9-10

For they themselves declare concerning us what manner of entry we had to you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come.

A church that is waiting for Jesus

The return of Jesus Christ is mentioned by every New Testament author. In total, it is referred to over 300 times. To the early church however, the second coming of Jesus was more than just a major doctrine, it was an interpretive lens through which they viewed the scriptures, their circumstances, and even their daily life. Our desire is that the church on Capitol Hill will be a waiting church.

We have been feeling called to plant a church on Capitol Hill. Over the next few posts, we would like to share the vision with you that God has given us. The core of this vision comes from 1 Thessalonians 1:9-10–

Stanley Voke: Lectures on Revival

Thu, Jul 1, 2010

Stanley Voke. Just seeing his name gives me joy. I have a mental list of those I want to see as soon as I arrive in Heaven. First, is my twin brother David. Then I want to see my sweet nephew Jody, who entered in at just 16 years old. Next on the list are Stanley and Doreen Voke. We first met them back in the 80’s through Pastor Dave Bridgeford who was hosting the Vokes all the way from London, England. Or more exact, Cobham in Surrey. They had pastored a few different churches for 42 years there in the UK and been honored to meet up with some of the leaders of the revival happening in East Africa. That was the message they brought to all of us at Calvary Fellowship....(click for more)

Trophies of Grace by Doug Dixon

Sat, May 15, 2010

You’ve heard the old adage “life begins at forty,”  well, for me, I was almost sixty when life really took on a glow.  It was at that time that the Lord led me through the doors of a prison and I was astounded by the opportunities that await God’s people who dare to enter there.  That was nine years ago, and since then the impression that was dropped upon me that day has only intensified.  These men are truly trophies of God’s grace...(click for more)

Hitler and Prayer by Craig Finley

Thu, May 13, 2010

Craig Finley

The Battle of Normandy was described thus by Adolf Hitler: “In the East, the vastness of space will... permit a loss of territory... without suffering a mortal blow to Germany’s chance for survival. Not so in the West! If the enemy here succeeds… consequences of staggering proportions will follow within a short time.”

“May 1944 had been chosen at the conference in Washington in May 1943 as the time for the invasion. Difficulties in assembling landing craft forced a postponement until June, but June 5 was fixed as the unalterable date by Eisenhower on May 17. As the day approached and troops began to embark for the crossing, bad weather set in, threatening dangerous landing conditions...(click for more)

On the Road with Proto Evangelion

Wed, Mar 31, 2010

Squished. This is the adjective that would currently describe the 8 members of Proto Evangelion. In our modified 15-passenger van, a mountain of equipment (including guitars, amps, a keyboard, violin, and cello) divides the driver from the 7 other band members, all snugly fit in the back two bench seats of the van.

Such has been the scene each time we (that is, Wayne, Riley, Pam, Jesse, Collin, Natalie, Nick, Peter, and myself) travel to or from a service to lead worship.  For the past 8 days, we have played at a church the size of a city block, enjoyed the overwhelming hospitality of our Southern Californian brothers and sisters in Christ...(click for more)

Colossal Noogie: Recap

Thu, Mar 25, 2010

by Andrew Hirschman

The Colossal Noogie, our annual Junior High retreat, consists of a bunch of students, leaders, and some messiness. The 2010 Noogie was a great time and no exception to this rule. Games were not just fun little activities and food was not just plain nourishment. Students participated in a game of life-size battleship with bombs (water balloons), missiles (water launchers) and ridiculous chaos....(click for more)
