Making a Long Term Commitment in Nicaragua

By: Joe Sinclair – June 2010

In 2006 we embarked on a long prayed about dream of bringing mission teams to Nicaragua to serve the “whoever” mentioned in John 3:16.  In the beginning we served in a variety of ways alongside Calvary Chapel Managua, in one of the toughest neighborhoods, called El Arbolito.

In 2008 we expanded our mission by introducing medical ministry and splitting our time between the capital city of Managua and Matagalpa, a smaller town of in the Northern coffee growing region.  It was amazing how quickly this new aspect of the medical mission came together and was blessed to have doctors and RNs from our church lead this effort.  The addition of the medical mission has proven to be a very fruitful ministry, opening the door for one on one presentations of the gospel to thousands of people.  These one on one encounters have been life changing for both the people of Nicaragua and for people on our teams.

Since our last trip, a core team of people who had now been on both missions began to pray about how we might have a long term impact in Nicaragua.  Soon it became clear that we were to focus our attention solely within one community in Nicaragua. Our goal, building relationships through discipleship, bringing practical helps of medical missions, and training programs to help break cycles of poverty.  Matagalpa was the location we decided to focus on.

By this time we had established a fruitful ministry relationship in Matagalpa with Brenda Rose a long term missionary field coordinator for Missionary Ventures International (MVI) headquartered in Florida.  The primary mission of MVI in Matagalpa is spreading the gospel via medical missions.  With much prayer and discussion with Brenda and our sending church of Calvary Fellowship in Seattle, we decided to pursue a church plant opportunity in Matagalpa at the Missionary Ventures Clinic property, and use this as our long term base of operation in partnership with MVI.

And so our journey for long term impact continues in July of 2010 as we take a team of 37 people to share medical ministry, construction projects, and establish a new church community at the MVI clinic.

Would you please consider joining us on this long term journey?  We are asking for commitments of prayer support, financial support, and other resources to help break cycles of poverty.  Perhaps you have gifts in the medical field, construction, microfinance, agriculture, vocational training, or bible ministry.  Any of these and more can be put to good use in Matagalpa Nicaragua.
