We have heard a lot about the Persian Gulf region in recent years, which has one of the hottest climates on earth. Bahrain is a very small nation of islands in the Persian Gulf, comprised of only 253 square miles with a population of 700,000. That is less than 1/5 the size of Long Island, about the size of Washington's Whidbey and Camano Islands. Approximately 92% of Bahrain is desert, with temperatures rising to over 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
Bahrain has no fresh water lakes, but there are sweet water springs that burst forth from under the sea along their coastlines. Divers get to the spring water by taking their boats out, not far from the shore. As the diver sits in his boat, he wraps a huge goatskin bag around his left arm, holding its mouth closed with his left hand. With his right hand, he then picks up a heavy stone and dives into the Gulf. Very soon, the diver is at the bottom where he opens the bag over the spring of fresh water. The jet current of sweet water is so strong, not only does it fill the bag, it also propels the diver back to the surface within seconds of closing his bag! Divers go down for that fresh water again and again, in order to provide the sweet drinking, cleansing, and industrial water that the people of Bahrain so desperately need to survive.
People desperately need Jesus Christ, the spring fountain of Living Water. Without Jesus, we are spiritually dead in our sins. Without Jesus, your family, children, and friends are spiritually dead. We and our loved ones desperately need the sweet life-giving water of the Holy Spirit.
Jesus told the woman at the well, "Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life" (John 4:13, 14).
Jesus is the eternal source of sweet, live-giving water. He wants to make your heart a fountain that not only supplies your life, but also an oasis where others can come, drink, and see that the Lord is good! So come to the well of Jesus, bring your thirsty, empty heart and He will fill it again and again, enough for everyone and everything you care about. You can never go to the well of God too many times!
"On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, 'If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water'" (John 7:38).
